A Rare American Painted Porcelain Platter, c. 1897, decorated by Anna Semmes Bryan, daughter of Admiral Raphael Semmes, a scene of the sinking of the C.S.S. Alabama, based on a lithograph by A. Hoen & Co. Baltimore; Charles Haviland Limoges platter also decorated with gilt nautical borders of ropes and anchors, signed and inscribed on base 'Sinking of 'Father's Ship', 'The Alabama', June, 1864; 'A.S. Bryan', 1897, height 1.75in., width 18.5in., depth 11.5in., with a file containing extensive history on the platter and the Semmes family. Note: The platter was the illustrated cover story in Haviland Quarterly, Vol. 14, Number 1, September 2003.
