A Rare Pair of English Porcelain Ewers, c. 1856, each underside with printed inscription describing a "Fac-simile of a vase representing the battle between the Greek and the Amazon, found at Cumae towards the later end of the year 1855, see the illustrated London News, Feb. 16, 1856", each with a circular tapering spout, the black and terra cotta glazed body transfer-decorated with a continuous battle scene and a Greek honeysuckle border, (one neck restored), height 8.5in.
