A Sierra Leone Carved Stone Nomoli or Pomdo Figural Group, carved as a seated female with large breasts carrying a small child upon her back, each with distinct facial features of bulging eyes beneath arched brows, broad noses and protruding chins with closed lips, the mother with a coiled snake-like flattened headdress, height 6 1/2 in., width 5 1/8 in.
PLEASE NOTE: Provenance: Acquired by William W. Hodges of Kokomo, IN, mid 1960s, while developing teacher training schools at the University of Njala, Sierra Leone.
