Description:

Alexander John Drysdale (American/New Orleans, 1870-1934), Oak Tree on Point of Land, City Park, New Orleans, oil wash on board, signed lower right, sight 19.25in. x 29.5in., in a period frame. E3000/5000 Note: In his book Drysdale (1870-1934): Artist of Myth and Legend, Dr Howard Buechner quoted an article in the Daily Picayune dated July 6 1913 that describes the talent and ability of the artist: Drysdale's interest is frankly in landscape, and especially in Louisiana landscape. He admires the lone level sweep of Louisiana prairies; the limitless flat expanses of the Louisiana swamp, and there are few things that fire his imagination like Louisiana oaks and willows. He paints them with astonishing accuracy. When he travels to and fro from West End and Spanish Fort to Mandeville or other nearby resorts - as he does from time to time, his eyes are quick to note any bit of charming scenery beside the track.
