An American Coin Silver Goblet, Gale & Hayden, New York and Charleston, SC, c. 1848, ovoid bowl with scroll rim, floral and scroll repoussé, cartouche engraved "Theus N. Miles, March 18th, 1850", stepped foot with floral repoussé and egg and dart banding, height 5 1/4 in., weight 5.65 troy ozs.
- Provenance: Provenance: Descended in the family of Confederate General William R. Miles of Mileston, Mississippi, and New Orleans. Second son, Theus Norvelle Miles, was born in 1850, and married Alice Herrick of New Orleans. They made their home in Alexandria, LA where Miles was a prominent cotton factor.
