An American Rococo Carved and Laminated Rosewood Parlor Chair, c. 1850-1860, attributed to John Henry Belter, New York, floral carved crest, C and S scrolled stiles with pierced grape vines, continuous hoop back and sides, serpentine seat rail, rose carved cabriole legs ending in scrolled toes, casters, height 41 1/2 in. Note: The shaped padding on the back of this chair is generally considered to be indicative of Belter's early innovative output of laminated seat furniture.
