Description:

An American Rosewood Armoire, c. 1850, New Orleans, the arched and scrolled crest raised on a rectangular bead molded cornice with outset corners above a plain frieze, the rectangular mirror plate within conforming frame, and over a long drawer, on concentric feet, height 108 in., width 52 in., depth 25.5in., note: lockplate engraved on obverse N.O. 28, 1868. E5000/7500 Note: This rosewood armoire, by virtue of the French Restauration influenced box case, the finished maple interior with drawer belt, the cabochon pendant at top and restrained rococo ornament throughout, relates very closely to the two armoires found in the documented suites of American Rococo furnishings at Gallier House and at the Louisiana State Museum. Each of these well known bedroom suites is accompanied by bills of sale from Prudent Mallard.
