An Important American Classical Carved Mahogany Grecian Sofa, c. 1825, Philadelphia, cornucopia carved tablet flanked by scrolled crest rail, a bolster end above the scrolled foot, reeded seat rail, carved dolphin legs, on casters, height 32 in., width 83 in., depth 25 in. Note: A Philadelphia sofa conserved by the Philadelphia Museum of Art identical to the lot above is illustrated in Boor, et al. Philadelphia Empire Furniture, p. 366, fig. 221.
