Anna Colquitt Hunter (American/Georgia, 1892-1985), "Playground", oil on canvas board, signed lower left, 9 in. x 12 in., in a period frame. Note: Born into a genteel Savannah, Georgia family, Anna Coquitt Hunter attended college but left before graduation to marry. The untimely death of her husband forced Hunter into the work place to support her three young children. She pursued a successful career as journalist with the local newspapers. When she began working as the art critic she felt she needed to learn to paint to truly understand the art world. In this charming painting, Hunter depicted a group of children enjoying an active day on the playground.
