Description:

Attributed to Heinrich Bürkel (German, 1802-1869), "Arrival into the Village", oil on canvas, 12 1/4 in. x 16 in., in an elaborate giltwood frame. Note: Bürkel was known for his evocative and detailed scenes of German village life. The son of a somewhat impoverished landlord, Bürkel feared he would not be able to pursue his artistic studies. Through perseverance he eventually gained entry to the prestigious Munich Academy of Art where he studied under Wilhelm von Kobell (German, 1766-1853). Bürkel was an honorary member of the Academies of Vienna, Dresden, and Munich. His paintings are in the permanent collections of numerous museums, including those of Berlin, Hamburg, and Leipzig.
