Description:

Attributed to William Aiken Walker (American/South Carolina, 1838-1921, active New Orleans, 1876-1905), "House on a Coastal Inlet", oil on artist board, unsigned, 3 5/8 in. x 7 3/4 in., in a period giltwood frame.

  • Notes: Note: To be included in John Fowler's forthcoming catalogue raisonné on William Aiken Walker. "This is an interesting example of what I would term a largely imaginary scene that utilizes certain elements that can be found in the painter's work, and it is my considered opinion that the work can indeed be attributed to the hand of William Aiken Walker (1838-1921). Although unsigned and being a somewhat atypical composition for the artist, the painting appears, nonetheless, to exhibit a number of techniques employed in Walker's work. Specifically, the drafting of the dunes in the distance and portions of the sky and water are what suggests Walker". John Fowler, 2009.
