An American Rococo Carved and Laminated Rosewood Étagère, c. 1860, John Henry Belter, New York, elaborate scrolled foliate crest over tripartite mirror back, the side panels with small shelves, serpentine base with conforming carvings, molded marble top, height 93 in., width 62 in., depth 17 1/2 in Note: This ambitious and highly carved étagère exhibits an overall form and includes specific ornament related to two well-known examples attributed to John Henry Belter: the étagère at Rosalie in Natchez, Mississippi and the Service Collection "Cupid" étagère illustrated in Dubrow, American Furniture of the 19th Century 1840-1880, pp. 148-150.
