Bradley Smith (American/New Orleans, 1910-1997), "Papa Celestin", resin coated print, signed, titled and dated "1938" lower right, sight 11.5in. X 9.5in. E600/900 Provenance: Estate of Al Rose, New Orleans. Note: For over twenty-five years, Bradley Smith was an assignment photographer for Life magazine where he produced memorable photo essays. Working in the straight documentary style of photography Smith returned home to New Orleans in the late 1930s and photographed the unique cultural heritage of southern Louisiana. Smith photographed many of the jazz musicians working in New Orleans including this charming image of famous cornet player Papa Celestin (1884-1954) and his grandson.
