Eliaers Patent", Augustus Eliaers, Boston, fl. 1853-1865, scrolled back, arms with knuckle terminals, seat with foot rest, folding mechanism with brass latch control, splayed legs Note: This recumbent lounge is one of two well-known metamorphic forms from Augustus Eliaers. This innovative design was shown in the 1853 Massachusetts Charitable Mechanic Association Exhbition together with a metamorphic library chair. The catalogue called the Eliaers recumbent chair, "carefully made and uncommonly comfortable...a good drawing room article, and the recumbent principle might, in some case, be of convenient indisposition".
