A Rare Chinese Gilt Decorated Cinnabar-Orange Bowl-Form Ink Cake, Qing Dynasty (1644-1911), bowl form body carved to the interior well with a central roundel enclosing a pair of gilt five-clawed dragons flanking the characters "imperially bestowed", the exterior banded with four pairs of confronting horned dragons contesting flaming pearls above a ruyi band, base inscribed "made by Cao Sugong in Qianlong period, Qing Dynasty", height 2 3/8 in., diameter 6 in Provenance: Aixinjueluo Collection. Note: Cao Sugong (active 1615-1689), a famous ink making master in the Huizhou, Anhui province, together with Wang Jinsheng, Wang Jie'an, and Hu Kaiwen, was praised as one of the 'Four Grand Scholar-Inkmakers'.
