Lot 784
French School, late 19th/early 20th c., "Portrait of Madame Antonia Devaucey de Nittis", oil on canvas, inscribed "DeVlieger-David-Ingres" lower left, 59 1/4 in. x 45 3/4 in., in an attractively carved frame. Note: This portrait is a composite, incorporating aspects from the works of three different artists; the head is from "Portrait of Mme. de Nittis" of 1807, by Jean Auguste Ingres (1780-1867); the body is from "Portrait of Mme. Raymond de Verninac" of 1798/9, by Jacques-Louis David (1748-1825); and the color palette and background are reminiscent of the marine paintings of Simon de Vlieger (1601-1653).
