Description:
Gaetano Capone (Italian/American, 1864-1920), "Finding Shade", oil on canvas, signed "G. Capone" and dated "1919" lower right, stamped "M.F. Moll" on stretcher en verso, 18 in. x 22 1/8 in., in original carved and giltwood frame.
- Notes: Note: Gaetano Capone immigrated to the U.S. in 1883 and settled in New York City. He spent the winter of 1918-19 in New Orleans where he painted many courtyard scenes, returning to the city in 1919 for the month of October. During this time the Louisiana State Museum had an exhibition of his work. The painting offered here was painted in 1919 and beautifully depicts a grassy hillside pasture with cows finding shade near a large tree.
