  • Provenance: Provenance: Mount Hope Plantation, Baton Rouge, Louisiana.~ Note: The highly trained French artist Jean Joseph Vaudechamp wintered in New Orleans from 1831 to 1839 His refined neoclassical style of portraiture appealed to the growing middle class of cotton merchants, businessmen and planters in New Orleans and southern Louisiana.
