Joseph Anton Harck (Belgian, 1866-1943, active New Orleans, c. 1926- 1943), a bronze relief plaque of a mischievous boy stealing grapes, intaglio signature lower right J. Harck, 11.5in x 14.5in., framed. E1500-2000 Note: Harck was the founder of New Orleans Silversmiths at 505 Royal Street. Harck emigrated to the US to exhibit his work at the Philadelphia Exposition in 1926. Noted German silversmith and designer Karl August Dingeldein succeeded Harck in 1938. Dingeldein and Harck were close friends as well as business partners. Tragically at age 55, Harck was fatally struck by a streetcar while retrieving his hat. He is buried in Lafayette Cemetery No. 1.
