  • Notes: Note: Chicago native George Finola's (1945-2000) passion for Dixieland jazz brought him to New Orleans. A talented musician, Finola achieved worldwide fame for playing his "clear and brilliant" cornet. As a jazz enthusiast, he was founder of the Jazz Institute of Chicago, and among the organizers of the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival in 1965 Until his untimely death at the age of fifty-five, he could be seen regularly playing his cornet in French Quarter clubs and restaurants. In this colorful and lively watercolor, Leo Meirsdorff captures Finola exuberantly playing his horn.
