Notes:
Note: Evelyn DuBose was the daughter of wealthy Alabama planter James Henry DuBose. In 1861 she married James William Bondurant, then a Sergeant in the Jeff Davis Artillery of the Confederate Army, later promoted to Colonel. The couple had four children, Eugene, Mary, James, and Minnie, before Colonel Bondurant died from malaria in New Orleans in 1867.
Colonel Bondurant came from a family of French Huguenots who had immigrated to the United States in the 18th century. He commanded the Jeff Davis Artillery from May 1862 until April 1863. In that month, he was promoted and left the battery that he had helped achieve such a fine reputation.
