Lot 1265
Description:
Niek van der Plas (Dutch, b. 1954), "The Beach", oil on board, signed lower right, inscribed "Van der Plas" en verso, 9 3/4 in. x 11 3/4 in., attractively matted and framed.
- Notes: Note: A native of the Dutch fishing village of Katwijk, der Plas has spent his entire life within yards of the sea. Essentially a self-taught artist, he originally studied house painting at the local vocational school; his father was a house and ornamental painter. Der Plas began to draw at the age of five or six and soon won his first drawing contest at a nearby theme park. Despite the praise and appreciation from local artists, the young man never managed to have any formal training. Der Plas initially worked as a decorator and house painter, but slowly began to dedicate more and more time to his art. In recent years he has exhibited his beach scenes in Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium and the United States. Reference: Hogewoning, H. Niek van der Plas. Sanders Fine Art, Rijnsburg, 2003
