Description:
Pedro Friedeberg (Italian/Mexican, b. 1936), "Las Causas Perdidas", mixed media on board, signed and dated "1989" lower right, titled lower left, with a "Galeria de Arte Mexicano, Mexico City" label en verso, 31 1/2 in. x 35 1/2 in., unframed; accompanied by a cancelled check to the artist dated August 10, 1996.
- Notes: Note: Known for his irony and humor, Pedro Friedeberg described his childhood, "I was born in Italy during the era of Mussolini, who made all trains run on time. Immediately thereafter, I moved to Mexico where the trains are never on time, but where once they start moving they pass pyramids." Adept at drawing, he studied architecture at the Universidad Iberoamericana and in 1960 joined the Dadaist art group, Los Hartos (The Fed Up). In reference to this, Friedeberg stated, "I admire everything that is useless, frivolous, whimsical. I hate functionalism, post modernism and almost everything else." He has achieved acclaim for his work as a furniture designer, sculptor, architect and painter. His elaborate and intricate Surrealistic paintings reflect his architectural training.
