Pu Zuo (Chinese, 1918-2003), "Catching the Horse", ink and color on paper, signed and sealed upper right, 26 3/4 in. x 13 1/4 in., framed and glazed.
- Provenance: Provenance: Purchased Beijing 1940s; thence by descent to the current owner. Note: Pu Zuo was a member of the Qing Dynasty imperial family. He was the great grandson of Minning, the Daoguang Emperor (1782-1850), and first cousin to Pu Yi, the Xuantong Emperor (1906-1967). As a versatile modern artist working within the classical Chinese tradition, Pu Zuo witnessed great respect and honors throughout his career including being honored by the Chinese Department of Arts and the Ministry of Culture by having his work selected for inclusion in a UNESCO publication presenting China's most important living artists.
