A Collection of Six Chinese Carved Root Figures, 19th c., each twisting and bending figure carved utilizing the natural forks, bends, gnarls and knots of the wood, mounted to naturalistic carved root stands, height 7 7/8 in. to 10 5/8 in Provenance: Acquired c. 1920s-1930s; thence by descent in the family of Madelyn Cohn Cahn Conne Kiam Kreisler (b. 1890, New Orleans - d. 1975, New York). Note: Figures carved from tree roots and branches were favorite objects in the studies of the Chinese literati, just as strange rocks and stones had their places in their gardens.
