French's Artist Board, N.Y." label en verso, 12 in. x 20 in., period frame. Provenance: Private estate collection, Birmingham, Alabama. Descended in the family of William Henry Buck. Note : The almost certain pendant to this painting is an oil on board, ""Loading Ice, Bangor, Main$E"", signed by Buck and sold as lot 804 by Neal Auction Company on December 4, 2005 In 1883, a Daily States newspaper article noted Buck's New Orleans studio contained ""...several fine canvases representing the Penobscot River, Maine and Canada"". The descent of this painting to the artist's daughter, Wilhelmina (Mina) Buck (1870-c. 1930), makes this landscape a reference for the view in the 1883 newspaper article. Reference: H.
