Nicolay Tysland Leganger (American, 1832-1905), "On the Penobscot Bay, Me.", 1896, oil on canvas, signed lower left, signed, titled and dated en verso, 28 in. x 44 in., in an elaborate Victorian gilt oak and gesso frame with acorn motif.
- Notes: Note: American artist Nicolay Leganger, who exhibited at such prestigious institutions as the National Academy of Design and the Boston Art Club, painted the picturesque landscapes of New York, Massachusetts, Maine, and New Hampshire, particularly concentrating on the lakes and waterways. The body of water represented here, Penobscot Bay, lies at the mouth of the Penobscot River, at the center of Maine's coastline.
