William Forsyth (American/Indiana, 1854-1935), "The Sycamore Tree", oil on board, signed lower right and dated "'26", signed en verso, estate stamp en verso, 28 in. x 24 in. E15000/25000 Provenance: Collection of William Forsyth Family. Descended in family to present owner. Note: Famed member of the Hoosier Group, William Forsyth was a full time teacher and artist. Forsyth studied art at the Royal Academy in Munich in the 1880s and then return home to Indiana. Along with T.C Steele and J. Otis Adams, William Forsyth achieved national acclaim as an important American Impressionist painter. The painting "The Sycamore Tree" depicts the large tree in the front yard of the Forsyth home in Irvington, which was located on the outskirts of Indianapolis. The property surrounding the home was full of trees and wild life, which conveyed a sense of living in the country.
